BSA 2019 Annual Appeal
July 19, 2019
Dear Colleagues and Fellow Bibliographers,
We write to you today as the President and the Executive Director of our growing Society. It has been eight months since I, Erin Schreiner, became the BSA’s first full-time Executive Director, and we have lots of news to share.
First and foremost, members now have electronic access to the full archive of PBSA. This resource offers a century of bibliographical scholarship at the touch of a button, illustrating our long tradition of scholarly publication. We hope you will find this useful in your research.
The 2019 Fellowship Program saw an expanded pool of applications; we awarded a record number of BSA Short Term opportunities, and nine named fellowships. Winning projects ranged from Native American cartographical scrolls to medieval codicological challenges, to book culture and propaganda in Mao’s China.
Our most recent initiative is a pilot program of Community Grants. We hope that funded programs will offer you and prospective members the opportunity to engage with your peers. We look forward to reporting back to you next year about the outcomes and future of our Community Grants.
The BSA exists to ensure a vibrant future for the study of the material text. We ask for your support through a contribution to The Annual Fund, or with a membership renewal at a higher level if you have not yet joined for 2019. Your gifts make all these programs, new and old, possible. Gifts in any amount have an impact, and help us to serve both established and emerging bibliographers.
Please also keep an eye on your mailbox, where you will receive a hard copy of this letter and an enclosure with information about donating monies to the BSA from your retirement assets. These gifts help us to build a bibliographical legacy that will support our long-term growth and offer more to future bibliographers.
Please do consider making a gift, either by clicking here and paying by credit card, or mailing a check to Executive Director Erin Schreiner at 67 West Street, Suite 401 #C17, Brooklyn, NY 11222.
We thank you for your ongoing support of bibliographical study, and the BSA.
Sincerely Yours,
Barbara A. Shailor & Erin Schreiner
President Executive Director
